Why these aren't files you download
Most free church directory templates are a Word document or a spreadsheet. You type a family in, the table breaks, a photo shoves a name onto the next page, and by the fortieth family you're rebuilding the layout instead of finishing the directory. The template was never the hard part — keeping four hundred names laid out across sixty pages is.
These templates work the other way around. You enter your families once, in plain forms, and the template is applied to them. Change your mind about photos or families-per-page and the whole directory re-flows in a second — no re-typing, no re-cropping, no page numbers to fix.
Every template below is a live preview, rendered by the same engine that prints your copy. What you see on screen is what leaves the printer, down to the eighth of an inch.
What's on every card
- Family photo, cropped square and identical in size on every card — or no photos at all if that's your church.
- Everyone's name, with who's who: Head, Spouse, Son, Daughter, or whatever you type.
- Birthdays, month and day, with the year kept private — plenty of folks share a birthday but not a birth year.
- Wedding anniversary, with the years married worked out for you when you know the year.
- Address and phone, each with its own switch so you can leave either off the printed copy.
- Members and regular attendees both, marked so the difference is clear without being unkind.
Pages the template builds for you
A directory is more than family cards, and the parts churches forget are the parts people use most. Every template includes them:
- A cover with your church name, logo, a photo of the building, and the edition — “2026 Edition”.
- A welcome page with a note from the pastor, your service times, and a verse.
- Birthdays by month, gathered from everything you entered, so the ladies' group can plan a year of cards from one page.
- Anniversaries by month, the same way.
- A back cover with your address, service times, and when the directory was printed.

Free, and free to hand out
Building your directory is free — every family, every photo, every birthday. So is sharing it: switch on a private link and the whole congregation can open the directory on their phones, search a name, and always see the current version. You can put a password on that link so it stays inside the church, and search engines never index it.
You don't need a credit card to start, there's nothing to install, and your directory stays in your account so next year's edition is an update rather than a fresh start.

Are these church directory templates really free?+
Yes. Every template, every family, every photo, and the private link you share with your congregation are all free. There's no card required to start and nothing to install.
Can I switch templates after I've entered everyone?+
Yes, and that's the point of working this way. Your families are stored separately from the design, so you can switch between all ten themes, both paper sizes, and every density as often as you like. Nothing is re-typed and nothing re-cropped.
What if some families haven't sent a photo?+
Their card prints with the family initial in the photo frame, so the page still looks finished rather than broken. Add the photo whenever it arrives and the directory updates itself.
Can I get a Word or Excel version?+
There's a CSV template for getting your family list in — open it in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets, type over the sample rows, and import it. The directory itself is laid out here rather than in Word, which is what keeps the pages from breaking as you add families.
How many families can a template handle?+
Hundreds. A 120-family church prints to roughly 45 pages at four families per page, including the cover, the birthday and anniversary lists, and the back cover.
Do we need a photographer?+
No. Most churches take family photos on a phone after a service, or use pictures families already have. Whatever you upload gets cropped to fit the card.
